Tips for making perfect Tamales:

  1. Make sure the corn husks are soft before you start. If they’re not, soak them in warm water for a few minutes.
  2. The masa should be wet but not too sticky. If it’s too dry, add a little more water. If it’s too sticky, add a little more flour.
  3. Be gentle when spreading the masa onto the husks. You don’t want to tear them.
  4. To steam, the tamales, place them in a steamer basket over boiling water and cover them with a lid. Steam for about 30 minutes, or until the tamales are cooked through.
  5. Let the tamales cool for a few minutes before serving so that you don’t burn yourself on the filling
